Repair & Recoating

Industrial Coating Failure Repair and Recoating

Document the failure, determine the repair boundary and prepare a compatible scope before applying another coat.

Identify the Failure Pattern

Peeling, blistering, rust-through, cracking, chalking and mechanical damage can have different causes. Location, age, exposure, substrate condition and coating history help define the investigation.

Do Not Hide the Boundary

A repair should distinguish sound coating from loose or failed material. Feathering, edge preparation, cleaning and profile requirements should follow the approved repair procedure and product guidance.

Check Compatibility

Existing coating identity and condition affect whether an overcoat is suitable. Test patches, adhesion evaluation or additional removal may be required. Unknown systems should not be assumed compatible.

Repair Options

  • Localized spot preparation and touch-up
  • Defined-area repair and full topcoat
  • Complete system removal and replacement
  • Shop refurbishment of movable assets
  • Field maintenance during an outage

Document the Completed Repair

Record prepared areas, products, batches, conditions, thickness readings and final photographs under the project quality requirements.
