Substation coating work requires coordination beyond ordinary industrial painting. Asset status, qualified access, grounding, owner procedures and work-zone control must be established before production planning.
Define the Asset Boundary
Identify which structures and components are included, what must remain untouched and whether equipment will be de-energized. The utility or controlling owner determines electrical safety requirements and access.
Sequence Around Operations
Outages, switching, adjacent energized equipment, weather windows and other contractors affect the schedule. The coating plan must fit the site’s approved work controls.
Prepare Complex Geometry
Lattice steel, bolts, edges, connections and difficult backsides require deliberate access and stripe-coating plans. Overspray, spent abrasive and debris must be controlled around sensitive equipment.
Build an Inspection Record
Area-by-area photos, preparation verification, environmental readings and film-thickness documentation help connect the finished work to the approved scope.
Plan the Work Around the Asset
Coating recommendations should be confirmed against the substrate, exposure, owner specification, product data sheets and actual site conditions. A field assessment is the correct starting point.
